About me
I am a 3D artist currently seeking employment. I previously worked for Rare on the NXE avatar project creating clothes and textures for the avatars.
Currently I am working on two MODS to help expand my portfolio and improve my skill set, Operation Black Mesa a remake of the Half Life expansion pack Opposing Force by Gearbox, I was initially brought on to create vehicles for the MOD but now I have become the modelling lead setting assignments and providing feedback on the assets created.
The other MOD I am working on is Praetorian Defiance the first game from indie developer Flaming Brain Studios where I am the modelling lead and content specialist because of my experience with the Unreal Developers Kit, my tasks include handing out assignments and providing feedback and advice on the assets during their development then when the asset is finished I import it into UDK and create shaders/particle systems/physics assets/prefabs as necessary for the level designers to work with.
Work Expierence
May 2008 - August 2008
Rare Ltd - Warwickshire -Junior Modeller
Short term contract organised by Escape studios to assist Rare with the xbox 360 avatar project. My initial tasks were to create low resolution facial textures using Photoshop, later I was tasked with modelling and texturing low polygon items of clothing. I had little experience at creating models to such constraints but the staff at Rare were very helpful and taught me a lot about how to get the most detail out of limited texture space and how to model more effectively. My texturing skills improved greatly during my time there.
I appreciated being given responsibility for part of the project, a change was made to the engine which rendered all the facial textures that had been created thus far incompatible and required modifying to the new constraints, I organised the team and produced a networked spreadsheet to track their progress, the facial textures had to follow a naming convention to work, to increase efficiency and reduce the probability of errors I wrote a MEL script which automatically renamed the textures and created the required second eye set. As the change to the engine came late into development we were working to a very tight schedule but were able to meet the deadline with time to spare.

Personal
I enjoy a challenge, consequently I've had many interests from competitive swimming and trampolining to playing the saxophone in a band. Recently my interests lie more in film, particularly the special effects. I am a keen gamer and spend much of my time keeping up to date with the latest advances in games technology and design. I also enjoy modding games to develop my modelling and texturing skills.
Having successfully completed the games course at Escape Studios I acquired many new skills and a greater appreciation of how the games industry operates and am confident that this is the right career for me. My ambition is to become a technical artist as this would make use of both my background in programming and my modelling/texturing skills. I enjoy problem solving and helping others, whilst working at Rare, if a problem cropped up relating to Maya or Photoshop, I found I was the person turned to when there were no Rare professionals available.
